Nikolaevsk was founded in 1968 by three families with a grant from the Tolstoy foundation.
Nikolaevsk sits on the Kenai Peninsula approximately 26 miles northeast of Homer, Alaska and twelve miles, as the crow walks, from Anchor Point, Alaska. We boast nearly 500 residents.
Nikolaevsk is fairly self-contained with its own school of grades from kindergarten through 12th grade. It has a great sports department as well as very dedicated teachers. It is one of the few schools left that share rooms with other grades. It is also a dual language school with Russian being spoken.
We are not Russian Orthodox but are called English. That is fine with us for we have found the residents of this small hill village to be a close to being real people we have ever found.
My hubby and I had lived in Anchorage for over 26 years and the crime had reached such a high level that drive-by shootings were becoming common. It took three years looking before we discovered this wonderful village.
We are currently developing the Alaskan Sourdough Mall where Alaskans may showcase their beautiful work. Russian, Alaskan Native, Old Timers, and other sections for you to browse through with a variety of Alaskan arts and crafts. Keep checking back for the Grand Opening.
